CM Punk Comments On Returning To WWE At SmackDown

Even though former WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk has made it perfectly clear that he doesn’t plan on returning to WWE anytime soon, wrestling fans from all over the world still won’t stop asking him about a return to the company.
The latest example of a fan asking Punk about a WWE return came on Wednesday, when the now mixed martial artist was asked on Twitter if he was going to return, and confront John Cena when SmackDown heads to his hometown of Chicago, Illinois, on December 27. You can check out Punk’s response below.
Of course, you can probably tell that CM Punk is being sarcastic there. He had the same kind of response to a fan who asked if he was returning to WWE for WrestleMania 33 next spring, and he even mocked our new president, Donald Trump, as well, saying that his WWE return is going to be “bigly.”
CM Punk abruptly left WWE in January of 2014, and roughly 10 months later, he explained the circumstances surrounding his abrupt departure, citing injuries, dissatisfaction with his pay, and his place within the company.
The one thing that CM Punk never accomplished during his time in WWE was being in the main event of their biggest show of the year, WrestleMania. But, while he never main evented the show, he had some memorable matches on WWE’s grandest stage, including his match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29, which ended up being his finalWrestleMania match.
After his lopsided loss to Mickey Gall at UFC 203, CM Punk said that he intends to keep on fighting, even if the UFC cuts him. So, it doesn’t look like he’ll be returning to professional wrestling anytime soon, because he’s dead set on making his MMA dream work.
As of this writing, the UFC hasn’t cut Punk, which suggests that they’re not going to. Both Punk and his coach at Roufusport — Duke Roufus — have said in recent weeks that they’re confident that the ex-WWE star will get another shot inside the UFC’s octagon.

As for a return to pro wrestling, well, it looks like it won’t be happening anytime soon. That doesn’t mean that Punk has completely ruled out a return to pro wrestling, because he hasn’t. But, as previously mentioned, he’s focused on getting better as an MMA fighter at the moment, so we could be several years away from him returning to the sport that helped make him a worldwide superstar.
During a recent appearance on the Opie with Jim Norton show, CM Punk commented on possibly returning to WWE at some point after his MMA career comes to an end, and here’s how he responded.
“I can’t tell the future, and you ask me if I’m going back to [WWE] ever, and that’s my answer now is, I don’t wanna be the guy that says never say never, but I don’t plan to [go back]. But, I can’t tell the future. Something could happen. I personally don’t see it.”
As mentioned at the top of this article, WWE is scheduled to head to Chicago on December 27 for their SmackDownshow. It’ll feature the return of John Cena, a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between AJ Styles and new number one contender Dolph Ziggler, and possibly the return of The Undertaker. Sadly though, it won’t feature the return of CM Punk. But, you can bet that there will be several “CM PUNK!” chants throughout the night, especially if the show starts to drag at any point.
