Big Plans For Triple H At The Royal Rumble
When Roman Reigns completely destroyed Triple H at WWE’s TLC pay-per-view earlier this month, it became clear that, at some point, there would be a match between the two. There was some speculation that Triple H would challenge Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 32, which would mean that “The Game” would have to win the 2016 Royal Rumble.
Up until November, WWE had their plans in place for Triple H at WrestleMania, as he was going to go one-on-one with The Rock. However, it came to WWE’s attention that an insurance issue would prevent The Rock from wrestling on the show.
After it became apparent that The Rock vs. Triple H couldn’t happen, WWE then booked Triple H vs. Seth Rollins for their spring spectacular at AT&T Stadium, but then that plan fell apart due to Rollins blowing out his knee at a WWE live event while wrestling Kane.
So, with two WrestleMania matches for Triple H falling through, it made sense that WWE would then have him wrestle Roman Reigns at the event. However, according toDaily DDT, WWE is planning on having Reigns take on Triple H at January’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
Next week on RAW, Roman Reigns will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Sheamus, with Vince McMahon serving as the special guest referee. Before McMahon announced the match will take place on the first RAW of the new year, he warned Reigns that Triple H would be coming for revenge, and that it would happen when Reigns least expects it.
Some are predicting that Triple H will make his return on RAW next week in an attempt to cost Reigns the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which would be just in time to hype a one-on-one match between Reigns and Triple H at the Royal Rumble, as the event is just a little over three weeks away.
Before the Sheamus vs. Roman Reigns rematch was made official, the belief was that the two would have their rematch at the Royal Rumble, where Reigns would presumably be victorious. But with Sheamus getting his rematch three weeks before the event, it opens up a spot for someone else in the title match.
Typically, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match isn’t presented as the focal point of the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, as the Rumble match itself is usually the selling point of the show. But, with Triple H vs. Roman Reigns in the works, the title match could, for once, be the center of attention on the show.
As for who Reigns will go on and face after he’s done with Triple H, well, there seem to be a lot of people suggesting that he’ll go one-on-one with John Cena at WrestleMania 32, which would mean that Cena will win the Royal Rumble match for the third time in his career, which would tie “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s record for the most Rumble wins in WWE history.
Another possible opponent for Reigns at WrestleMania is Brock Lesnar, who faced Reigns in the main-event of last year’s WrestleMania. In that match, because of the fans’ poor reaction to Reigns, WWE wasn’t able to execute the plan they had for a year leading up to the event, which was to have Reigns beat the man who ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak. So now, with the fans completely on Reigns’ side, WWE may be looking to execute that plan in Dallas next spring.
The odds that Reigns will face Triple H at WrestleMania 32 do seem slim, especially now that The Rock has announced that he will be at the show, which has led many to believe that he’s wrestling, and that the match between himself and Triple H is back on.
Next Monday’s RAW will be a very interesting show, and it’ll likely either confirm or deny the rumor that Triple H is going to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble show on January 24.
