Major Name Set To Win in The Money In The Bank !!!!
With the WWE Backlash 2017 pay-per-view officially in the books, it seems at least two superstars may have revealed their intention to participate in the Money in the Bank ladder match. The winner of the popular match will walk away with the coveted briefcase, which includes a contract inside. With that contract, the winner can cash in for a shot at the WWE Championship at any time or place of their choosing. With Jinder Mahal recently capturing the WWE World Championship from Randy Orton, two superstars spoke about the opportunity to win that briefcase.
The WWE Network featured their Talking Smack show after the PPV, with Renee Young and radio personality Peter Rosenberg as the hosts. During that time, they spoke with some of the big winners from the Backlash pay-per-view. The first superstar they had on their show was Sami Zayn, who pulled off a surprising win over Baron Corbin at Sunday’s pay-per-view. Some fans may not have been expecting “The Lone Wolf” to fall to Zayn, but he showed once again why he’s an underdog capable of winning. Zayn won a grueling match in which his back was punished quite a bit by Corbin, but Sami seemed to be in a good place mentally after the pay-per-view.
As Wrestling Inc reported, during the post-show, the Talking Smack hosts asked Zayn about where he’s headed next after defeating Corbin and seeing Jinder Mahal win the WWE Championship. Zayn brought up how Money in the Bank is about a month away for the SmackDown Live stars, and he could surprise everyone just like Jinder Mahal did on Sunday night. It seems likely that Zayn is going to have another match with Corbin in the coming weeks as they continue their feud.
“The Perfect 10” Tye Dillinger stopped by the show next and talked about his excitement to perform in Chicago at the PPV, as well as grabbing the win on the pre-show over Aiden English. Dillinger, who arrived at SmackDown Live from NXT right after WrestleMania 33, was asked about what’s next for him after his recent victories on the main roster.
He went on to mention the big opportunity coming up with the Money in the Bank PPV and teased, “What would happen if a ‘Perfect 10’ just happened to get that ‘Money in the Bank’ briefcase?”
It’s a great question, but realistically not many WWE fans would see that move coming. Then again, not many saw Jinder Mahal becoming a No. 1 contender for the WWE Championship and actually winning it. However, Dillinger could make for an intriguing entrant into the latest edition of the match.
The Money in the Bank ladder match usually features a field of five to seven competitors, so it’s conceivable that both Tye Dillinger and Sami Zayn could be entrants in the latest installment. Zayn has participated in these matches before with WWE, but it would be a first time for Dillinger. In terms of predicting the other competitors, it seems fair to assume it could be stars such as Shinsuke Nakamura, Dolph Ziggler, AJ Styles, Mojo Rawley, Kevin Owens, and Baron Corbin. Rusev has also been demanding a title shot, so he could become an entrant as well, according to SmackDown’s general manager, Shane McMahon. Rusev could also end up getting a straight-up championship match somehow, but that remains to be seen.
While Zayn and Dillinger are intriguing entrants, the smart money in terms of who will win these matches usually favors the heels over the faces. Both Zayn and Dillinger are the latter, but a major turn could always happen. Fans saw just that during this past weekend’s NXT TakeOver: Chicago when DIY came to a crashing end as Tommaso Ciampa attacked Johnny Gargano. The most recent face to win the MITB briefcase was Dean Ambrose, who cashed it in the same night to leave the pay-per-view with the WWE championship belt. So that could give Zayn and Dillinger some hope of winning as stars holding some popularity with the fans right now.
The Money in the Bank 2017 pay-per-view will be held on Sunday, June 18 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Could Sami Zayn or Tye Dillinger end up winning the briefcase this year, or will another superstar claim the prize?
