Goldberg Wants Another Run With WWE!!
WWE star Bill Goldberg recently spoke about a return to the ring and which opponents he’d prefer to face if he made another comeback. He made his return to the wrestling ring for another program with Brock Lesnar after the two participated in a WrestleMania XX bout that drew criticism for being subpar. He would make appearances on Raw, become a Royal Rumble entry, and defeat Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship. Goldberg and Lesnar faced off at this year’s WrestleMania, with Lesnar defeating Goldberg for the WWE Universal Championship in a better-received match than their previous ones.
With that loss, it seemed to close the chapter on the Goldberg vs. Brock feud but left fans wondering if Goldberg was officially done. On the April 3 episode of Monday Night Raw, Bill Goldberg bid farewell to the WWE Universe, for now, leaving the door open for some sort of return. Whether that is simply for a WWE Hall of Fame entry next year or another return to the WWE wrestling ring is up for debate. However, if he does get back into some sort of match, there seems to be a short list of superstars he would most like to work with.
Bill Goldberg spoke to Wrestling Inc. about his recent return to WWE and how it helped his career. While Goldberg said he’s certainly feeling the pain from working out to prepare for Brock Lesnar and stepping back into the ring, he said he felt it helped “rewrite” his first run with the company.
WWE fans will remember that the WWE teased a potential Goldberg vs. Roman Reigns match ahead of the 2017 Royal Rumble. The two crossed paths in the ring and performed a double takedown of Braun Strowman in part of the buildup to the big pay-per-view. For a while, there were lingering rumors that one would win the Royal Rumble match, and the other would end up with the Universal title. The WWE website even posted an article suggesting it as one of five dream matches for Bill Goldberg.
Surprisingly, there are several other stars mentioned on that dream match list who Goldberg hasn’t really worked with. He had brief run-ins with The Undertaker ahead of the Royal Rumble and then in the actual match. In fact, it was Taker who eliminated him from the contest. However, Taker seems like he is officially done with professional wrestling as he has left the ring during WrestleMania 33 after he lost to Roman Reigns.
A program with Roman Reigns would make good sense as both he and Goldberg employ the use of the Spear as one of their trademark moves. For Reigns, it’s his finisher, while Goldberg uses the move ahead of his finisher, the Jackhammer. Many fans had thought a “spear vs. spear” sort of matchup was in the works between the two, but it never panned out.
Still, one has to wonder if during WrestleMania 33 two of wrestling’s iconic stars both worked in their final match. The Undertaker seemed to give his farewell through actions in the ring after his loss. Goldberg made his goodbye speech a night later on Raw. However, he mentioned in his interview that he doesn’t think a return to the ring is an “impossibility” — it’s just more of an “improbability” at this stage in his life. While fans will hope for more Goldberg, they may see his return for a WWE Hall of Fame entry rather than “one more match.”
